Lingering holiday treats: A couple tips

Hello!

I hope you had a fabulous Christmas with your families. Claire had an amazing one filled with lots of love, yummy food consisting of anything 'mush' form, and way too many toys.  There are a few we won't be seeing for another 2-3 years because she's too little for them right now.  But the more the merrier, right?

I made a good amount of cookies, but nothing like last year.  I went overboard because I was still pregnant and had more of a precious thing called time. Cookies + pregnant women.  You do the math.

And never mind the fact that my peanut butter blossoms resemble boobs.  Still, they were delicious and devoured by all.

The recipe for these delectable cookies is so, so good! They were a hit at holiday parties and on the dessert platter.  Peppermint Mocha cookies make my heart happy; especially while drizzling ribbons of melted white chocolate over them. Messy is the new tasty.  So fun.

I don't know about you but it's hard for me to resist something sweet directly after a meal, let alone at holiday time. As I'm trying my best each day to hit the gym more, I'm also vowing to stop with the sugar for a little while.  I know it's still holiday time, but we all know how we feel in our own skin. Sugar just loves to set up camp on my butt and inner thighs. I'm going to do my best because that's all I can do. Oh, and I'd be lying if I didn't mention the 2 weeks hubs and I couldn't stop with the McFlurry's for dessert.  Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.  Dairy is a sneaky little bitch.

All 650 calories of it.

Over the years, I've found a few tricks that work for me when I need to stop picking at sweet treats during holiday time or just need a cleansing day.

  • Brush your teeth.  you'll be minty fresh.  You wouldn't want to ruin fresh teeth with chocolate, right?
  •  Chew gum- they say chewing gum makes you more hungry.  I beg to differ. It keeps my mouth fresh and after awhile, I just don't feel hungry. Chewing gum burns calories, too.
  • After a meal, usually dinner, if you feel a sweet tooth coming on, grab a water bottle or sip tea. You think you're hungry and need that piece of chocolate but you're most likely not.  After a meal, I try to finish one bottle of water over an hour and I eventually stop thinking of food and thus feel full.
  • Brush your teeth before bed , hit the sack and watch a little TV.  I'll get sucked into a show or start to doze off. I also find it better to be in bed watching TV than on the couch. The kitchen isn't close to my bed.
I hope you'll try a few of these tips when it comes to the sweet treats!  We can only do our best, but let's try to kick some ass!

Here's to a happy and healthy 2015!
