Caramel Apple Dump Cake

The following recipe is in no way, shape or form, healthy. Sugary and fatty and processed , oh my!  If you click away now, I understand. I never even really knew what a dump cake was and it always quite honestly sounded sort of gross.  But when I followed the totally simple recipe from all recipes.com and altered it a bit, the prep time took five minutes and I already knew it was going to be scrumptious.

Well, I was actually a little nervous at first because of the cake mix going in with only cold butter. But this baby baked at 350 for 45 minutes and came out totally perfect. I was also worried it was going to be overly sweet. Negative again.  It was just right.

I will call it dump cake, but this scoops out like a cobbler or a crisp and it is SO good.

Last night we went to my cousin's house in Princeton to catch up. They have a new home and five beautiful children.  { though, the entire time it felt as if no children were there. I hope to enforce the well behaved rule with my kid...I can only hope, right? } :) We had a delicious dinner of lasagna and meatballs; salad and bread; great chats sitting by the fire pit on a gorgeous fall night, and the desserts were especially delicious!

Side Note:  wherever we move next, we will have a dining room. And a table this beautiful and long.  You reading, Gar?

Make this dump cake for your Thanksgiving dessert. Or tonight. And serve up with some whipped cream or vanilla bean ice cream.  Delishhhhh.

Sorry I don't have any more photos of this loveliness. We all pretty much dove into it like starving seagulls.

Caramel Apple Dump Cake

Ingredients

-1 box of yellow cake mix
-1 can of apple pie filling
-2 apples, chopped { I used Gala}
- about 1 cup of Kraft Caramel bits
-1 stick of unsalted cold butter; quartered
- dash of cinnamon
- dash of lemon juice or OJ

Method

-Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.

-In a 9x13 baking dish, combine the pie filling, chopped apples, lemon juice or OJ and cinnamon. In a medium bowl, mix with your fingers; the cake mix and butter until most of it is crumbly.

-Scatter the caramel bits on top of the apple mixture. Evenly spread the cake and butter mixture on top. Bake for 40-45 minutes until top is bubbly and golden brown.

Note: I sprayed the baking dish with a baking spray, but I noticed once it was cooled down and I scooped it out, it was very easy to scoop. There were no leftover pieces stuck to the dish. So, the spray doesn't hurt anything, but it can be left out.

After I picked up some yummy cookies for the kids at Target and my items for this dump cake, I came across two other AWESOME finds!  Target is just...um, amazing.

Both look and smell delicious.  I only ate the one though...My house smells great.

Happy new week a head!
